After raising over R7-million in its inaugural year in 2014, the AfrAsia Bank Cape Wine Auction broke through the R10-million mark in 2015, with every cent raised going to a selection of charities focused on education in South Africa.
Hosting the event for the first time, Dan entertained a big-name audience at Boschendal Wine Estate that included business titans Paul Harris, Harry Viljoen, GT Ferreira, Tom Boardman, Michael Jordaan and Analjit Singh, as well as Ryk Neethling, Jacques Kallis, John Platter and South African Reserve Bank governor Lesetja Kganyago.
Working with auctioneer Iain Banner, an array of exclusive and vintage wine went under the hammer, as well as luxury stays in a chateau in France, villas in Tuscany and Greece, and on a private island in the Seychelles, with R10.5-million raised in total.
Started by Warwick and Villafonte owner Mike Ratcliffe, the auction supported Pebbles Project, the MAD Foundation, the Click Foundation, Community Keepers, The Maranatha Trust, Pinotage Youth Development Academy, Wine Training South Africa, The Kusasa Project, Hope Through Action, Sustainability Project, Endurocad, Cape Winemakers Guild, and the Anna Foundation.
