As trustee of the Duke Of Edinburgh Awards, His Royal Highness Prince Edward, the Earl of Wessex, travelled to South Africa in support of the awards, known in South Africa as the President’s Award for Youth Empowerment.
In partnership with Tsogo Sun, three events were held in honour of the Earl’s visit, all three of which were hosted by Dan. The first of those, a high tea held at the prestigious 54 On Bath boutique hotel, featured guests from Johannesburg’s high society, and was attended by both the Earl, and his wife, the Countess of Wessex.
High tea was followed by a business breakfast the following morning, attended by recipients of the Duke Of Edinburgh Award, as well as Minister in the Presidency Collins Chabane, and South African and British business leaders.
Prince Edward’s Johannesburg visit culminated in a Royal Command Performance at La Toscana, a series of operatic and musical extracts performed by some of South Africa’s finest young musical talent, and directed by Richard Loring. The Earl took to the stage to congratulate the artists, and also paid tribute to Dan for his work as compere over the two days.
