Riding in his third Absa Cape Epic, Formula 1 great Alain Prost took time off from the world’s toughest mountain bike challenge to join Laureus ambassadors Butch James, Christoph Sauser, Nino Schurter and Josef Ajram, as well as Laureus Spain trustee Rafael de Medina and 2007 Rugby World Cup winning captain John Smit, in celebration of the 2014 Laureus World Sport Awards.

The assorted sporting greats were interviewed by Dan, with the Laureus ’Spirit Of Sport’ television show cameras in attendance, and Prost proved an ideal guest, given that Germany’s Sebastian Vettel had won the Laureus Sportsman of the Year award the night before in Malaysia. Prost paid tribute to Vettel as a worthy winner, and one of motor racing’s greats, suggesting with a smile that he would have no chance were he to race Vettel today.

Swiss mountain bike stars Sauser and Schurter also celebrated the work done by Laureus, with Sauser’s songo.info charity, and its work in the Kayamandi township outside of Stellenbosch, getting particular attention. Spaniards Medina and Ajram also praised the work done by Laureus, with Medina making sure to mention the success of his countryman Rafael Nadal, who had won Comeback of the Year at the awards.

There were also strong words of support from James, riding the Epic in support of Laureus, and Smit, who along with Dan was a guest at the 2013 Laureus World Sport Awards in Rio de Janeiro. As is a strong supporter of Laureus, and hosted the interviews during his ninth year on the microphone at the Epic.
