As a precursor to his debut at the Cape Argus Pick ‘n Pay Cycle Tour in 2013, Sir Richard Branson led an exclusive training ride on the eve of the race through the Kleinmond area, affording a limited number of guests the chance to ride with the celebrated entrepreneur, and then enjoy a private lunch at the Arabella Hotel and Spa, in aid of Branson’s Virgin Unite foundation, and South Africa’s own JAG Foundation.

Approximately 50 guests took part in the ride, and then enjoyed an entertaining question and answer session with Sir Richard, hosted by Dan, during which he reflected on the success of Virgin, lessons he has learnt over his many years in breaking boundaries and chasing dreams, and admitted to the nerves of taking part in his first lengthy cycle race the following day.

Lunch was followed by an auction, and Dan sold off a number of bespoke items and sought after experiences, including the KTM 4000 bicycle that Sir Richard would be riding on the Tour. The total amount of money raised easily surpassed six figures, and Sir Richard wrapped up a very special day with a personal ovation for Dan as MC and auctioneer for the day.
